Fayetteville, Ar. - Western Carolina junior Caleb Bailey finished out his indoor season this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Bailey finished 13th overall in the preliminary round of the 800 meter race, coming in at 1:50.49, falling short of qualifying for the finals.
The All-Southern Conference performer qualified for the national meet after setting a WCU record of 1:48.49 in the event at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame the previous week. He finished second at the SoCon Championships in the event with a time of 1:52.33. Bailey also competed in the mile and the 4x400 meter relay this year, as well as the men's distance medley team, which broke a WCU 19-year old record, coming in at 10:05.52.
Bailey will now lead the Catamounts into their outdoor season, which is set to begin this Friday, March 21, at the Clemson Relays. Bailey's best 800 meter time last season was a 1:50.80 at the Florida Relays.
