Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's men's and women's track and field team win several events at the WCU Track and Field Invitational.

On the women's side WCU's Cedea Bowden won the long jump with a distance of 18 feet and a quarter inch. In the pole vault Valerie Jalajas led the way with a height 10 feet, 11.75 inches. Ashley Herendon won the javelin and the discus throw with a distance of 131 feet, 53 inches and 128, seven inches respectively. Shavon Neely won the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.49. Benetta Boyd led the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.39. Virgina LaCombe won the high jump and the 400 meter hurdles with a height of 5 feet and 8.5 inches and a time of 1:04.39. Barbara Lee Palmer won the hammer throw with a distance of 133 feet, 11 inches. Ronetta Burgess led the 200 meter dash and the 100 meter dash with a time of 25.28 and 16.11 respectively. WCU's 4x400 meter relay team and 4x100 meter relay team won with times of 4:03.30 and 47.71 respectively.

The WCU men's 4x100 meter relay team also won the event with a time of 41.97. WCU's Charles Rice won the pole vault with a mark of 15 feet, one inch. Tim Vaught won the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.05. In the long jump, WCU's Doug Petway led the way with a jump of 22 feet, 1.5 inches. Caleb Bailey won the 1500 meter and 800 meter run with times of 4:03.94 and 1:57.44.
