Track and Field Has a Solid Performance at Georiga Relays

ATHENS, Ga. - Western Carolina Track and Field had a solid day of performances yesterday at the Georgia Relays, with many top ten finishes.

In the women's hammer throw, Alisha Bradshaw finished fourth with a throw of 48.65 meters and Megan Withers finished seventh with a throw of 41.35 meters.

Men's hammer throw saw four top ten finishes, as Andy Benesh came in third with a throw of 45.70 meters, Joe Korac in fifth (43.29m), Jared Johnson in sixth (42.63m), and Jonathan Newton in seventh (40.8m).

Jordan Orr came in second in men's javelin with a throw of 48.76 meters, as well as Kyle Bernier in third (46.00m), Andy Benesh in fourth (45.67m), and Matt Stenger in sixth (41.2m).

Men's and women's shot had several Catamount's ranking in the top ten: Alisha Bradshaw in second (13.9m), Megan Withers in fourth (11.9m), Jasmin Brown in ninth (11.45m), Kim Cannon (11.33m), Jared Johnson in third (14.40m), Joe Korac in fourth (13.67m), and Jonathan Newton in fifth (13.58m).

Brittany Powell finished seventh in the women's triple jump with a jump of 11.73 meters and Tyler Bell finished sixth for the men with a jump of 13.82 meters.



In the 800 sprint medley gainy special, WCU A (Tayla Carter, Shiniqua Pryor, Genevieve Emrick, Jocelyn Keen) came in fifth with a time of 1:50.14. WCU A for the men (Aaron Tribble, Brandon Hairston, Earl Rahming, Aaron Harris) finished fourth with a time of 1:34.16

Women's 100 meter hurdles was Xaviera Bass in fifth (14.87 sec.) and Shermell Wilkins in sixth (15.10 sec.). Abraham Faism finished first for the men with a time of 14.62 seconds, while Sam Lusty came in second (14.82 sec.), Marquis Bailey finished sixth (14.99 sec.), and Tyler Bentley came in seventh (15.05 sec.).

WCU A and B, for both men and women, placed in the 1600 sprint medley. Women's WCU A team finished first with a time of 3:57.43, while WCU B finished second with a time of 4:03.31. For the men, WCU A finished third with a time of 3:25.43, while WCU B finished sixth with a time of 3:35.01.

Finally, in the men's 5000 meter run, Josey Weaver finished third (15:05.37), Travis Alfaro came in eighth (15:12.09, and Nolan Clark came in ninth (15:16.52). For the women, Mara Smith finished eighth (17:50.28).

The Georgia Relay's will finish today and the Catamounts will compete at home in the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic on March 22-23.
