CLEMSON, S.C. - Lawren Willard leads the men to finish Day One of the SoCon Championship Saturday at the Indoor Track & Field Complex in Clemson. The trio of Willard, Cordell Livingston, and Bob McNeil took the top three spots in the long jump, picking up 24 key points for the Catamounts.

The men's team (47 pts) currently sits in second place behind Appalachian State (85.33 pts). Samford sits behind WCU in third with 45.33 pts.

Two freshmen-Cameron McRae and Jonathan Newton- placed fifth and sixth with throws of 14.68m and 14.15m, respectively. Jamie Van Pelt finished eighth with a throw of 13.87m.

Defending 60m hurdle champion Cordell Livingston finished with the fastest preliminary time of 6.21. The sophomore will also be competing in the finals of the 200-meter dash tomorrow after posting a time of 22.52. He will be joined in the event by teammate Brandon Hairston, who finished slightly ahead of Livingston with a time of 22.35.

On the women's side, Western Carolina has put itself in solid position to make another run for the indoor title. The women currently sit fifth, but await the sprints where WCU excelled in the prelims.

Sensational senior Jane't Carothers finished her prelim races in first place in the 400-meter dash (55.73), first in the 200-meter dash (24.62), and tied for second in the 60-meter dash (7.64). Carothers also picked up a point for her efforts in the high jump, placing eighth with a jump of 1.60m. It was the first time that the senior participated in the event this season.

Felisha Garren was right behind Carothers in the 200 and the 400, picking up a pair of third place finishes.
