Johnson City, Tenn. - Western Carolina University's men's and women's track and field teams completed competition today at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships in Johnson City. The men came away with a second place team finish, while the women placed fourth, both behind Appalachian State, who took home both team championship trophies.

WCU freshman John Robertson was named the SoCon's Male Freshman of the Year. Robertson was the champion of the men's 800 meter run, coming in at a time of 1:52.11. He finished just ahead of teammate Caleb Bailey who finished it in 1:52.33 for second place. The Catamounts had two other individual champions. Sean Heaton won the men's pole vault with a vault of 15' 5.75" and Laura Tieszen came out in first in the women's pole vault at a height of 12' 1.25". The men's distance medley team also placed first at a time of 10:07.84.
