Men's Track and Field Dominate in the Pole Vault

Knoxville, Tenn. - WCU's men's track and field team had two vaulters in the top five of the pole vault at the Tennessee Indoor Classic Saturday, February 17.

Junior Charles Rice won the pole vault with a jump of 15 feet, 5.75 inches defeating Appalachian State's Aaron Pedrick. Joining Rice in the top five was freshman Seaje Hartness with a jump of 14 feet. Hartness placed third.

Junior Donnie Bryant finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.77. Senior Jeff Chambers finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet and 10 inches. Chambers also placed 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 41 feet, 1.5 inches. Freshman Nick McNeil led WCU in the weight throw placing eighth with a throw of 43 feet, 10 inches.

On the women's side senior Valerie Jalajas won the pole vault with a height of 12 feet, 2.5 inches setting a season best. Teammate Michelle Velez set a mark of 11 feet, 2.5 inches to finish fourth.

Winning the women's weight throw and setting a personal best was freshman Barbara-Lee Palmer with a distance of 52 feet, 10 inches. Placing fifth in that same category was junior Ashley Herendon with a distance of 48 feet, two inches. Joining the pair in the top ten of the weight throw was sophomore Quiletta Dunston with a distance of 47 feet, 9.25 inches.
