Clemson, S.C. - Western Carolina's women's distance medley relay team turned in a first place finish at the Clemson Tiger Invitational Saturday with a time of 12:15.93. The four-person team consisted of Deanna Kulesz, Tonya Edmonds, Becky Signoretti and Melanie Cooper. This foursome was only .84 off of the current WCU school record. James Irwin also did well for the Catamounts, finishing fourth in the men's mile run with a time of 4:22.47, breaking the Clemson Indoor Track record.

"This was a good day for us as it gives us some confidence and momentum heading into the 2004 SoCon Indoor Championships Feb. 27-28," said head coach Danny Williamson. "We are very happy for our athletes that claimed top 10 finishes in their events and also vey proud of all of those that were able to achieve personal bests. Some of our other athletes were either just inches or tenths away from being at their best ever as well. This was great for us to be able to compete at this level against 23 other universities."

The Catamounts are now beginning preparations for the Southern Conference Indoor Championships which take place Feb. 27-28 in Johnson City, Tenn., on the campus of East Tennessee State.
