Clemson, S.C. - The Western Carolina men's and women's track and field team competed in the the Tiger Classic February 2-3 in Clemson, S.C.
Junior Virginia LaCombe won the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet and 3.75 inches to lead the Catamounts. LaCombe continued to do well for the Cats. She ranked third in the high jump with a distance of 5 feet and 5.75 inches.
Sophomore Melanie Cooper ran a time of 10:36.67 in the women's 3,000 meter run. That time placed her third overall. Also leading for the Cats was freshman Benetta Boyd who ranked seventh with a time of 59.75 in the 400 meter dash and sophomore Roslyn Bingley ranked eighth with a time of 1:00.27.
Leading the way for the men were Nick McNeil and Caleb Bailey. McNeil placed sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 48 feet and four inches. Bailey placed seventh in the mile with a time of 4:22.68. Senior Jeff Chambers finished eighth behind McNeil in the weight throw with a distance of 47 feel and 2.5 inches.
The track and field team will next compete in the Iowa State Classic Friday and Saturday, February 9-10.
