Akron, Ohio - Western Carolina track & field combined for 11 podium performances, including five first-place finishes at the Akron Indoor Invitational over the weekend. The Catamounts additionally posted seven seasonal bests and broke a trio of school records at the meet.
WCU's women registered six top-three finishes, including three firsts, while the men finished in the top three five times with a pair of individual first-places.
Highlighting the women's performances were first-place runs by juniors Kerrie Savery in the 800 and Raquel Ramseur in the 400-meter dash. Savery set a WCU school-record with a time of 2:10.17 over two laps in the 800-meter run, while Ramseur broke a 12-year old record in the 400 with a time of 54.53. She also ran a seasonal-best time of 7.68 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash to qualify for the finals. Her classmate, Tangelia Johnson, ran fifth in prelims and finished third in the finals (7.72).
Ramseur and Savery teamed with senior Asia Davis and sophomore Aneesha Lane to win the women's gold division 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:48.47.
In the women's field events, freshman Tiana Jones finished third in the blue division long jump, while junior Nicole Lopez was third in the blue weight throw with a season-best distance of 15.35m (50-4.50).
On the men's side, sophomore Manteo Mitchell won the 400-meter dash with a seasonal top time of 47.98. Sophomore Albert Ashcraft returned to the track to take first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.75, just nipping the four-year old WCU record (T. Alford, 6.76).

From the blue division, freshman Lee Banks finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.72m (45-0.25).
Western Carolina returns to action this weekend, Feb. 9-10, at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Clemson University.
