Western Carolina Track and Field Compete at Clemson Invitational

The Western Carolina track and field team participated in the 2001 Clemson Invitational January 19-20 in Clemson, S.C. The women's team placed third of 21 teams while the men's team placed fourth.

The women's team won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:59.90. Running the 4x400 for the Lady Cats was Benetta Boyd, Rosalyn Hood, Cedea Bowden and Ronetta Burgess.

Val Jelajas and Kamata Potts helped lead the Cats with second place finishes in the pole vault and the long jump. Jalajas jumped for a height of 11 feet and 3.75 inches in the pole vault while Potts recorded a distance of 18 feet and 6.5 inches in the long jump.

The men's distance medley relay team placed third at Clemson with a time of 10:33.36. The distance medley was run by Caleb Bailey, Johnny Bomar, Irving Hunter and Jesse Norman. Norman placed third in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:38.70 defeating Clemson's Travis Alexander.

"For this to be our first meet back from the Christmas break we were a little rusty and still in the thick of things," stated Head Coach Danny Williamson. "Since the meet the teams have had two days of practice to get back to where they need to be. We need to take this meet as a positive and use it to move ahead."
