Brandy Venable is in her sixth year as a member of the Western Carolina coaching staff. She is responsible for the direction of the field event portion of the program. Venable serves as the coach for men's and women's high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin, and combined events.
Following five very successful years, which have included coaching seventy-nine All Conference performers, twenty-nine Southern Conference Champions, seventeen NCAA East Regional Qualifiers, and one NCAA Qualifier she is looking forward to the upcoming 2009 season. The 2008 season was one of the most successful seasons in the last decade when the women's team won both the indoor and outdoor Southern Conference Championships, the men won the indoor Southern Conference Championships, and seven athletes qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The 2008 season also brought Western Carolina University's first male field event NCAA Qualifier in sophomore high jumper Matt Evans.
Prior to coming to Western, she spent two years at Odessa Junior College (Odessa, TX) coaching hurdles, throws, and multi-events where she coached eleven athletes to thirty-one NJCAA All-American performances.
Venable attended Purdue University and was a four-time letterman (Heptathlon & Javelin) and twice earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. She graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Industrial Technology and went on to work as a manager at Intel Corporation for eight years.
