Western Carolina Cheerleaders Help Spread Holiday Cheer

Dec. 11, 2007

Cullowhee, N.C. - As the holiday's rapidly approach, the Western Carolina Cheerleaders are doing their part to spread the warmth of the season to the local community. The cheerleaders sponsored a dozen local children this holiday season by purchasing clothes, shoes and toys for each child.

Last Monday, O'Malley's of Sylva opened a room to allow the cheerleaders to wrap the gifts, while also providing a meal for the team.

In addition to sponsoring the children, WCU Cheer also assisted with the Haywood County Seniors' Project by donating supplies to fill Christmas boxes for seniors in the surrounding community.

"Reaching out to our community is very important to our WCU cheerleading program," said WCU alum and head cheerleading coach, Kim Cherry. "Being able to help make this holiday season a little more special for both children and seniors is very rewarding for us. My team went all out for these very special people!"

Cherry added, "We would also like to offer a special thank you to Lynn and O'Malley's for all of their support with this project!"
