Cullowhee, N.C. - In addition to the many events surrounding Western Carolina University's Family Weekend (Oct. 5-7), the WCU Catamount Cheerleaders also made time to participate in the "Whee walk for Women" on Saturday, Oct. 6. The event, sponsored by the Phi Mu Fraternity and the WCU Women's Center, involved a 5-Kilometer walk around Western's campus in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
All proceeds from the 9:00 am fundraiser walk went to the American Cancer Society.
"Breast cancer affects so many people including several of our very own Catamount Cheerleading families," said head cheerleading coach, Kim Cherry. "It was wonderful to see my team, along with their families and friends walking for such a good cause. It was a great way to show support and kick-off Family Weekend in Cullowhee!"
