Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina head cheerleading coach Kimberly Cherry-Beck has announced her squad for the 2011-12 from the open tryout held back in mid-April.
After a day and a half clinic held on-campus back in April, those vying to make the 2011-12 Catamount cheerleading squad were judged on stunting, tumbling, two short dance routines, a sideline routine, as well as a timed mile run and a brief interview.
"We had another successful tryout that resulted in a very talented, small coed team of 21. We have eight new freshmen in our program which is exciting, and we return 12 from the 2010-11 season," said Cherry-Beck. "Our first summer practice was awesome and we are looking forward to our second practice coming up in mid-August. Our team is looking forward to leading our crowd this fall in Cullowhee!"
In addition to practicing once again in Cullowhee before the fall of 2011, the squad will also attend the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) college camp in Myrtle Beach, S.C., right before classes start.
