About the Western Carolina Cheerleaders

March 30, 2005

Western Carolina University Cheerleading has a history of growth and excellence. This Co-Ed team is under the Department of Athletics and is led by former WCU Cheerleader Kim Cherry. In 2001, Western went to the National Cheerleading Association College National Finals and finished 6th in the small CoEd division before going on to place 3rd in 2002. Our primary goal throughout the season is to lead our crowd during ballgames while continuing to strive towards national recognition.

The team cheers at football, men's and women's basketball games, post season tournaments, and can be seen throughout the year at special event appearances. After those seasons are complete, we begin preparing for the National Cheerleaders Association competition in Daytona Beach, Fl. During the course of the year, the cheerleaders are also involved in various community service activities including; Relay for Life and the Jackson County Community Table.
