Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina Catamount Cheerleadering squad will hold its annual tryouts on Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22 in historic Reid Gymnasium on-campus in Cullowhee.
Registration is set for Friday evening beginning at 6:00 pm, with the inital tryout meeting to follow at 6:30 pm and the clinic where all material will be taught following the meeting with the WCU coaching staff.
Under the direction of head coach, and Western alum, Kim Cherry, the two primary objectives of the Catamount cheerleaders are to help promote school spirit and add to the game day experiences of all Catamount athletics, and to be the best in the Southern Conference. The WCU cheerleaders perform at all home and select away Catamount football games, as well as during both Catamount and Lady Catamount basketball home games. The cheerleaders also traditionally perform at the annual Southern Conference men's and women's basketball championships.
Tryouts are open to all current Western Carolina University students, as well as incoming freshmen and transfer students. Both men and women are encouraged to tryout for positions on the squad. Participants must show proof of insurance and acceptance to WCU in order to take part in the activities.
The tryout will include technical components, such as tumbling, all-girl and coed stunting, and performing routines, as well as additional items such as a timed mile run and an interview process with the coaching staff.
Below are all of the documents needed for the tryout, including an informational flyer, letter outlining Cats Cheer from Kim Cherry and all of the materials that need to be completely filled out to participate in tryouts, including the waiver form.
