Cullowhee, N.C. - Preparations for the Western Carolina Catamount Cheerleading squad's trip to the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA)/National Dance Association (NDA) Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., are continuing, and are scheduled to culminate on-campus on Sunday, April 4th in historic Reid Gym.
The WCU Cheerleaders will be performing their Nationals routine on-campus for their numerous supporters and student body at 7:00 pm. The performance is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Spectators should enter through the back doors of Reid Gym, across from the Courtyard Dining Hall (next to the blue gymnastics mat), which will be the only doors open prior to the event.
The Catamount cheerleading squad will compete in the small co-ed division at the national competition with the preliminary rounds slated for April 8 and the finals on April 9th in Daytona. WCU is one of two schools from the Southern Conference to compete, joining Georgia Southern which fields both a co-ed and all-girl squad at the competition.
In addition to the preview of the Nationals routine, in preparation for the squad's 2010-11 team tryouts on April 23-25 in Cullowhee, WCU Cheer will hold an open gym on April both April 15 and April 19 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in Reid Gym on campus in Cullowhee. Anyone interested in trying out for the 2010-2011 team, including current WCU Students and incoming transfers and freshmen, are welcome to attend.
The non-mandantory session will help introduce participants into the rigors of collegiate cheerleading and serve as a non-judged introductory prelude to the squad's tryouts (WCU Cheerleading Tryout Information).
To participate in the open gym, individuals MUST complete the "open gym" waiver form, which is attached below.
