Rick Fulton started at Western Carolina University as the business officer for Catamount athletics before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations in the summer of 2014. Duties include all business operations for athletics dealing with travel, budgets, purchasing, as well as liaison to the controller's office. He works closely with all coaches and staff in maintaining daily oversight of the department.

In August of 2017, Fulton took on additional responsibilities and was promoted to the title of Associate Athletics Director for Business / Internal Operations that included overseeing WCU's game operations and facilities, as well as internal operations as additional duties with Catamount athletics.

His career began after his junior year in college when he was drafted and played professional baseball in the Detroit Tiger organization. Injury lead him to WCU where he graduated in 1976 with a BS in Ed. From there, he became a teacher and coach at Tuscola HS as head baseball and assistant football and basketball coach.

Two years later a career in banking spanning twenty plus years culminating as Vice President for SunTrust Bank in Sylva. During that time frame, Rick worked with several banks and credit unions as well as work in the financial services division of EDS covering a three state territory and two hundreds plus clients.

Rick and wife Jana, moved back to the Sylva area as owners of Merriweathers Restaurant in the early nineties when they became involved again with WCU as a supporter and fan for the athletic program. Rick was hired as business officer for athletics in December 2009.
