Jamaal Mayo returned to the Western Carolina Department of Athletics in 2006. During his time back in Cullowhee, he has served in several capacities including the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services and Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities & Operations.
As of July 1, 2013, Mayo began a new role as Assistant Athletic Director working within the Catamount Club, calling upon his ties as alum of the WCU Football team to reconnect with former Catamount student-athletes.
In addition to his role with Facilities and Operations, Mayo is the sport supervisor for both the Men's & Women's Track & Field programs.
During his time working with WCU's Athletics Facilities and Operations, Mayo helped galvanize the unit in helping establish a solid game day operational experience, ensuring positive experiences of WCU's student athletes, coaches and fans are equal from venue to venue, game to game and practice to practice. He dealt with pre-game preparation, field/arena maintenance and oversaw the day-to-day operations for all of Western Carolina's venues and facilities.
As the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services, Mayo oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Student-Athlete Academic Support Program. Prior to being promoted to Academic Services, Mayo served as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Academic Support while also overseeing the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs, formerly CHAMPS/Life Skills.
The Hillsborough, N.C.-native also has experience coordinating the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs Program - formerly known as CHAMPS Life Skills - for the athletic department.
A 2003 graduate of Western Carolina University, Mayo earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Management while also playing football for the Catamounts. Mayo returned to his alma mater in August of 2007 after a brief stint with the Durham Bulls as the team's group ticket sales associate.
Mayo is also pursuing his master's degree in College Student Personnel from WCU.
