Bryan Powell is in his second year as a member of the Western Carolina University Department of Athletics, serving as the Assistant Director of Media Relations. Powell is the sport contact for volleyball, men's and women's cross country, tennis and track & field while also assisting with football and men's and women's basketball game day duties.
The Summerville, S.C. native is also charged with recruiting, training and staffing of the WCU Media Relations' student assistants. Powell served as the Media Coordinator for the 2012 Southern Conference Track & Field Championships and the primary media contact for the 2011 WCU Forest City Baseball Tournament. Powell came to Cullowhee in December of 2010 as a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina.
While at South Carolina, Powell worked in the Gamecocks' athletic department as a Student Assistant in the Athletics Media Relations office assisting with each of South Carolina's 18 sports. Powell worked closely with the Southeastern Conference's championship events, including the 2006-08 Men's Basketball Tournaments, the 2008-10 Football Championships, the 2009 Golf Championship and the 2010 Cross Country Championship.
Powell was recently married to the former Ashtan Evans of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., also a University of South Carolina graduate. He is also working towards a Master's degree in Sports Management from Texas A&M.
