Operation Christmas Child

Nov. 23, 2003

This fall, the WCU Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) expressed interest in doing a holiday volunteer project and SAAC Advisor and Senior Woman Administrator, Maria Ochoa, suggested the organization Samaritan's Purse. The organization has a project called "Operation Christmas Child" in which boxes of items are compiled and sent to children in need both in the United States and around the world.

WCU soccer player and SAAC Representative Emily Pierce was the team leader for the project. She distributed information to all the teams, informing them of the appropriate items to include in their boxes. Items included are things that all children need - toiletries, school supplies; and festive items that the children would enjoy. Pierce was pleased at the participation. "I was surprised and excited at the turnout and was glad that every WCU team chose to take part in this project."
