The Catamount football team has volunteered this fall at the Community Table in Sylva, NC. The Community Table is an organization that serves, on average, 70 people an evening and the cost of each meal served is $3.08. Eight to nine players serve on a shift, averaging two to three hours at a time. Not only do the players volunteer to serve the food, wash dishes, and clean up after the meal, the team also collected and donated $250 to the organization this year.
Junior Jada Sullivan finds the experience rewarding. "I enjoy reaching out to people in need at the Community Table. I was introduced to the organization through a project in one of my social work classes and wanted to continue to volunteer there."
James Stewart, public relations specialist at the Community Table enjoys working with the WCU football team. "The Community Table is incredibly grateful for the monetary donation and volunteer hours the student-athletes give us. Their contribution of not only money, but time, helps the Community Table in its ongoing effort to feed the food insecure in Jackson County."
