WCU Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremonies Set for Saturday

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina will induct its 21st class into its Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend (Nov. 12-14) as the Catamounts host Georgia Southern in Southern Conference football action at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. WCU will additionally honor its 14 football seniors during a special pre-game ceremony on Saturday in the final home game of the 2010 season.

Six former student-athletes with ties dating back to the 1950s through the present day comprise the Hall of Fame class which includes former student-athletes from three different sports. Tom Bodine (Football, 1991-94), Tobe Childers (Football, 1957-60), Kerry Hayes (Football, 1991-94), Anquell McCollum (Men's Basketball, 1992-96; Assistant Coach, 2004-present), Gaston Seal (Men's Basketball, 1959-63) and Rebecca Twiner Hastings (Women's Golf, 2000-04) will all be enshrined this Saturday.

Hall of Fame weekend kicks off on Friday (Nov. 12) night at 6:30 with the Hall of Fame reception and pinning ceremony with past and current inductees in the first-floor Peele, Westmoreland Suhre, Hartshorn Hospitality Room. Those planning on attending the pinning ceremony are asked to park in the Stadium parking lot behind the West Side Grandstands and enter the Ramsey Center on the ground floor of the north side adjacent Whitmire Stadium.

Following Friday's pinning ceremony, the WCU women's basketball team and second-year head coach Karen Middleton open their 2010-11 season in the Ramsey Center by hosting the Richmond Spiders. Tip-off in the season-opener is set for 7:00 pm.

Saturday morning's festivities begin with breakfast refreshments at 8:30 am in the Hospitality Room with the induction ceremony slated to begin promptly at 9:30 am.

With the home football game slated for a 3:00 pm kickoff, everyone planning on attending Saturday morning's induction ceremony is asked to park in either the baseball or Camp Lab parking lots, unless they have the appropriate Catamount Club-issued parking passes for the Creek or Stadium lots.

On Saturday night, the Hall of Fame committee will hold a special, informal reception for the inductees, guest and friends of Catamount Athletics at the Best Western River Escape Inn and Suites in Dillsboro beginning at 8:00 pm.

Kickoff for Saturday's final home football game against the GSU Eagles is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
