Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University and Catamount Athletics will induct its 23rd class into its Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend, Nov. 2-3, surrounding the final home football game of 2012 against the Chattanooga Mocs.
Three former student-athletes representing four different sports comprise this honorary class that includes Bill Stanley (Football, 1964-69), Eric Johnson (Football & Baseball, 1995-99) and Laura Tieszen Kamarinen (Women's Track & Field, 2002-05).
Festivities get underway with the Hall of Fame reception on Friday, Nov. 2 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Peele, Westmoreland Shure, Hartshorn Hospitality Room located on the first floor of the Ramsey Center. The newest inductees and their families will be on-hand for a special meet-and-greet social where they will also be presented their Hall of Fame pins and jackets.
On Saturday morning, the official induction ceremony is scheduled for the Hospitality Room in the Ramsey Center beginning with coffee at 8:30 am followed immediately by the proceeding at 9:30 am. The ceremony will include remarks by WCU Director of Athletics, Mr. Randy Eaton, WCU Hall of Fame Coordinator - and 2005 inductee - Mrs. Sue Persons, and WCU Chancellor Dr. David Belcher.
Each inductee will be introduced by a special guest and presented with their Hall of Fame plaque before delivering their own response.
During halftime of Saturday's football game between the Catamounts and the Mocs, there will be a special on-field recognition for the three newest inductees. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
