Catamount Golf Tour Wraps Up 2010 Season

Oct. 25, 2010

Cullowhee, N.C. - For the third-consecutive season, the Catamount Golf Tour increased in both participation and funds raised from the previous year. Created in 2008, the Tour is comprised of fundraising golf tournaments designed to bring the Catamount Spirit to the areas where many of our fans and supporters live.

Each of the seven golf tournaments on the Tour featured the appearances of many of our Head and Assistant Coaches. Proceeds from the Catamount Golf Tour are directly supporting the Catamount Athletic Scholarship Fund, which provides Scholarship assistance to many of our student athletes at WCU.

Aside from the Catamount Golf Tour generating more than $125,000 for Athletic Scholarships during its existence, the Tour has also provided a way for many of our alumni and fans to reconnect with one another and share their enthusiasm for the Catamounts.

Each year, the Tour Champion is determined by a point system in which each participant receives one point for participation; two points for placing third; three points for a runner-up finish; and four points if your team wins the event.

This year's Catamount Golf Tour ended in a three-way tie between long-time Catamount supporters Kevin Stanberry (Defending Tour Champion), Mark Reeser and Gary Rockett. A playoff was held on Friday, October 8th at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley to determine the 2010 Catamount Golf Tour Champion.

Congratulations to Kevin Stanberry for defending his 2009 Championship by winning the playoff to become the 2010 Catamount Golf Tour Champion.

The Catamount Club greatly appreciates the support of all of our sponsors and participants this year. If you have yet to participate in one of these events, please stay tuned to for the release of the 2011 Catamount Golf Tour schedule.

We hope to see you on the Tour next year as the Catamount Club strives to increase the support of each of the student athletes at WCU.
