Cullowhee, N.C. - Five Catamount Athletic events over a three-day span, beginning on Friday evening, headline Family Weekend 2008 at Western Carolina. The Catamount women's soccer, volleyball and football teams will all play at home this weekend.
Currently in second-place in the Southern Conference standings, the WCU women's soccer team will bookend the weekend with home matches on Friday night, under the lights, against Chattanooga and again on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day. Already a lock into the SoCon post-season field of eight, the Catamounts will be looking to secure a first-round home date, while also trying to keep regular season championship hopes alive.
The volleyball team entertains a pair of Palmetto State foes in the College of Charleston on Friday and The Citadel on Saturday, both at 7:00 pm. The CofC Cougars are currently first in the SoCon, with Saturday night's match following the WCU football game.
Saturday night's match is also the "Dig for the Cure" night in support of breast cancer awareness and fundraising.
And on Saturday, the Catamount Football team hosts Georgia Southern on the gridiron at 1:00 pm at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field. WCU will try and end a 19-game SoCon losing skid, while also snapping a four-game seasonal slide as well as a 13-game drought against the Eagles. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
Fans can follow all of the events this weekend with live GameTracker, presented by Carolina West Sports Medicine and the WestCare Health System, through CatamountSports.com. Saturday's football game will also be broadcast by the Catamount Sports Network.
