Rolando Lamb, a member of the NCAA Speakers Bureau, came to the campus of Western Carolina University on October 1 and spoke to the student-athletes about making healthy lifestyle choices. A self-titled "life coach," Lamb's message was titled "The Making of a Champion." He spoke about his nine components of healthy living and the importance of knowing yourself. WCU Men's Basketball player Lunzaya Nlandu was touched by Lamb's message. "It struck me when he talked about the importance of knowing your position in life - as student-athletes we can automatically tell you our position on the court, but we are not always as confident about our position in life." Nlandu also felt that the positive and upbeat tone of Lamb's message reached the group as a whole. Alesha Row, a WCU women's soccer player agreed with Nlandu's report of Lamb's message. "I felt that Lamb was easy to relate to and he kept his message both interesting and funny," Row said. "His emphasis on the importance of a college education in preparation for life after college made an impression on me."
Lamb's straightforward message was well-received by the WCU student-athletes, coaches and administrators. As the CHAMPS/ Life Skills speaker of the month for October, Lamb delivered a relevant message to the Western Carolina Athletics community.
