Western Carolina student-athletes joined in the fun to celebrate the Fall Festival with the students of Cullowhee Valley School on Friday, September 19. The yearly event, held at Cullowhee Valley School, incorporates a variety of outdoor activities for children as well as a silent auction.
All of the Catamount teams were well represented by players, coaches and administrators. The student-athletes manned several of the booths, helping with the face painting, craft activities and games. Cathy Compher, wife of WCU Athletics Director Jeff Compher and chair of this year's Fall Festival said, "This year's festival was a hit because of the WCU student-athletes - we are very appreciative of their participation and their support to the Cullowhee community. We could not have had such a successful event without them."
The student-athletes had an enjoyable time as well. James Barr, a member of the WCU Men's Track and Field team, said "I enjoyed watching the kids have a good time and I think that this event is beneficial for the kids of the community." Milton Bolton, also a WCU Men's Track and Field athlete said that the festival reminded him of his elementary school days. "I felt honored to represent Western Carolina and would be happy to participate in it again. I took pride in the fact that the Cullowhee Valley students were looking to us as role models."
The event proved a successful one for everyone involved and it emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the Western Carolina community and the Cullowhee community.
