Cullowhee, N.C. - In preparation for the 2010-11 athletic seasons, the WCU Dance Team attended the Universal Dance Association (UDA) dance camp at Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., in mid-August and returned with four trophies
Each dance team member learned three sideline routines, two timeout or halftime routines, a special event routine and various lifts. Additionally, the team had a couple teambuilding sessions as a part of the camp.
WCU's squad placed first with the highest rating of superior on the "home routine," which the team choreographed prior to attending the camp. They also received a superior rating on the Catamount Fight Song, which they also brought to have evaluated at camp.
Additional honors included a superior rating on the the UDA routines which included every team member being individually evaluated on two different UDA routines. Each member received two superior ratings on the routines learned at camp. And finally, the squad garnered "Most Improved" plaudits in an area that is based upon year-to-year improvement from the previous season.
WCU Dance Team Open Try-Out Announcement:
The WCU Dance Team will hold an open try-out, on-campus in Cullowhee on Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28 in Studio 1 in the Campus Recreation Center. Those interested in trying out must be currently enrolled at Western Carolina University in good academic standing.
