Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's annual, unofficial kickoff to the fall - the "Western Open" - is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the beautiful Waynesville Inn - Golf Resort and Spa in Waynesville, N.C.

The event tees off with a shotgun start of the two-person team, captain's choice golf tournament at 1:00 pm. Entry fee is $125 per person and includes golf greens fees, tournament gifts, dinner and awards. All proceeds from Catamount Golf Tour events benefit the WCU Athletic Scholarship Fund.

For those not wishing to participate in golf during the day, the event also includes a porch social and dinner at the cost of $25 per person. In addition to hearing from a variety of WCU coaches during the evening portion of the festivities, new Western Carolina University Chancellor Dr. David Belcher and his wife, Susan, will be in attendance as a special guests that night. The "meet and greet" social begins at 5:30 pm followed by a dinner at 6:30 pm.

Season tickets for the home portion of the 2011 WCU football schedule at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field are still on-sale through the Catamount athletic department ticket office. Season ticket Mini-plans that include three of the six home dates will be available for purchase on Monday, Aug. 1 with single-game ticket sales beginning on Monday, Aug. 15.

Western Carolina's football players officially report for fall camp on Tuesday, Aug. 2, with the first day of practice coming on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The Catamounts will have two open practices in just helmets, followed by a pair of open days in helmets and shoulder pads. The final open practice of the opening week - and the first in full pads - is slated for Sunday, Aug. 7.
