Cullowhee, N.C. - As the summer steams along towards the opening of fall sports camps and the beginning of the 2011-12 season, things continue to be busy around Western Carolina Catamount Athletics.
The Catamount Club continues its successful run with the "Catamount Golf Tour." The next event is the WCU/Hayesville Golf Outing to be hosted at The Ridges Golf Club. Thanks to the hard work of tournament hosts Mr. Larry Stanberry and Mr. Greg Parsons, all of the pairings are full with a waiting list.
The next best opportunity to participate in a Catamount Club-hosted Golf Tour event comes on Wednesday, Aug. 3 with the annual unofficial kick-off to the fall at the Western Open Golf Tournament, hosted at the Waynesville Inn, Golf Resort and Spa. The shotgun start of the two-person, captain's choice event is set for 1:00 pm and includes golf greens fees, tournament gifts, dinner and awards. Entry fee is $125 per person.
For those not wishing to participate in golf during the day, the event also includes a dinner at the cost of $25 per person. In addition to hearing from a variety of WCU coaches during the evening portion of the festivities, new Western Carolina University Chancellor Dr. David Belcher and his wife, Susan, will be in attendance as a special guests that night.
All proceeds from Catamount Golf Tour events benefit the WCU Athletic Scholarship Fund. To register a team, sponsor a hole or to RSVP for dinner only, please contact the Catamount Club office at (828) 227-3794 or by E-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In other Catamount Club news, plans are in the works for the second-annual parking event cook-out on Saturday, August 13. One day later, head coach Chad Miller and the Catamount women's soccer team will host Gardner-Webb in preseason exhibition action at the Catamount Athletic Complex to wrap-up that weekend of activities.
