CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina University Hall of Fame member Nora Lynn Finch has been named the Associate Commissioner for Women's Basketball Operations and Senior Woman Administrator for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Finch was a four-sport athlete for the Catamounts from 1967-70.
Finch was a member of the 1967-68 women's basketball team that went undefeated reached the CIAW Tournament twice. In the 1969-70 season, the Catamounts were the runner-up in the CIAW Tournament.
After graduating magna cum laude from Western Carolina in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in education she also earned a master's degree in education from Western Carolina. Before joining NC State, she directed the women's basketball teams at Wake Forest University (1971-73) and Peace College (1973-77) and was also Director of Athletics at Peace College (1973-77).
She was also responsible for overseeing the administration of women's basketball, men and women's golf, men's soccer, postseason appearances, and the Athletics equipment room operations at NC State. As SWA, Finch also had multiple ACC, NCAA, and University responsibilities and committee roles relating to championships administration, equity and diversity, governance, and women's interests and issues.
Finch was awarded Western Carolina University's 1997-98 Alumni Association Professional Achievement Award (outstanding alumni award) and Peak Performer Award for Outstanding Graduate in the College of Education.
