CULLOWHEE, N.C. -Western Carolina's 35 student-athletes, who earned spots on the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the 2013 spring season, was the most out of the 12 member schools the league office announced Tuesday.
The 303 student-athletes on the team represent all 12 SoCon institutions which honored student-athletes from the sports of baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf and men's and women's outdoor track and field.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the spring season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded spring campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
The league's 12 women's outdoor track and field teams provided the most academic all-conference members with 90, followed by men's outdoor track and field with 45 and baseball with 44.
