Cullowhee, N.C. - Final call for nominations for the 2014 Western Carolina University Athletic Hall of Fame are currently being accepted through Sunday, June 1. WCU will induct its 25th class all-time next fall during the home football weekend against returning conference member, VMI, November 14-15.

All told, a combined 111 former student-athletes, coaches and administrators, four teams, 10 Patron Award winners and two honored for career achievement after WCU have been inducted in the first 24 years of the existence of the Hall of Fame.

Western Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame Nomination Forms

The purpose of the Western Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those persons whose outstanding contributions have enriched the athletic programs of Western Carolina University, and to provide an enduring memorial and preserve for posterity the memories of those persons whose endeavors brought distinction to the university.

Criteria for nomination into the WCU Athletic Hall of Fame include having distinguished oneself through outstanding contributions while representing Western Carolina University as a student-athlete, coach or associate of the athletic department for two full seasons or one full season in two or more sports. Contributions include, but are not restricted to all-conference, all-state, all-region or all-district honors; All-America plaudits; conference player of the year or individual conference champion; university, conference and/or world record setting performances; competition as an Olympian.

A minimum of five (5) years must have elapsed since the student-athletes participated at the university, or since the association with the athletic department has ended, with the only exception coming by way of a posthumous award. Nominees must have left the university in good standing.

Files on each nominee are kept for a five-year period at which time an individual must be re-nominated for consideration into the hall. All statistical verification will come from the Western Carolina Office of Athletics Media Relations.

The 17-member Western Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame Committee which consists of 12 voting members will weigh each nomination before selection the 2014 class, with a nominee needing a two-thirds majority vote for induction. Once the selections are made, the 2014 Hall of Fame class will be announced during the summer months.
