Western Carolina University placed 20 athletes on the TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the spring 2004,the Southern Conference announced today.
A total of 235 students from around the league were named Academic All-Conference.
The 235 student-athletes averaged a 3.518 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Forty-eight percent (113 of 235) had a 3.5 or better.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have competed in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the spring.
This is the second year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season. The All-Academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference's Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.
