Cullowhee, N.C. - There were 30 Western Carolina student-athletes who had their degrees conferred at the graduation ceremony held May 10 in the Ramsey Center. The Catamount student-athletes were part of the largest graduation in Western Carolina University history with over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students receiving their diplomas.
Two Western Carolina soccer student-athletes graduated with honors - Melissa Berry (sport management) and Bailey Culp (international business) each graduated Magna Cum Laude. Track and Field led the way with seven graduates and soccer followed with five.
Western Carolina women's basketball saw four of its most decorated seniors leave the university with degrees. Chevon Keith, Monique Dawson, Jessika Johnson and Ashley Pellom led the Lady Catamounts to a Southern Conference Tournament Championship, a SoCon regular season title, twice broke the school record for wins in a season (24 in 2006-07 and 25 in 2007-08) and helped the squad pick up its first win over a ranked opponent with a victory over No. 21/22 Louisville.
