CULLWOHEE, N.C. - The Catamount Club's Catamount Golf Tour is getting set to tee off into high-hear and encourages fans to find an event near them and support one of the five remaining events.

Western Carolina Athletics and the Catamount Club have again partnered with Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort for the eighth installment of the Catamount Golf Tour. The six-event tour spans six months and includes many highly anticipated golf tournaments.

The opening event got underway with "The Mutt," on April 17 with it being renamed this year in remembrance of long-time Catamount football coaching legend, Al "Mutt" DeGraffenreid - and concludes with the 11th-annual Bob Waters Memorial at the Maggie Valley Club in Maggie Valley, N.C., on Friday, Sept. 4.

Stops along the way include The WCU Metrolina Open at the Warrior Golf Club in China Grove, N.C., on Friday, May 15; the WCU Catamount Shootout at the Marion Lake Club in Nebo, N.C., on Friday, June 12; the WCU Great Smokies Invitational at The Ridges Golf Club in Hayesville, N.C., on Friday, July 10; and a new tournament in northern Georgia, the WCU Atlanta Golf Classic, that will be held at the Eagle Watch Golf Club on Wednesday, August 19.

Each golf tour stop includes the traditional golf tournament side events such as "closest to the pin" contests on selected par-3 holes, and a "longest drive" competition.

Back by popular demand, the added wrinkle of the WCU Staff "5th Player Auction" returns for the 2015 installment of the golf tour. As the golfers make their way to their carts for the tournament "Welcome and Rules" announcements, they will have an opportunity to participate in a mini live auction. All WCU coaches and staff members on hand will be "on the auction block" to aid the four-player teams throughout that specific tournament. In short, each player of the foursome could chip in a minimum of $25 apiece for the right to have a fifth player for the day. Bidding for the WCU staff "5th Player" will begin at $100.

The Catamount Golf Tour was established in 2008 to generate additional financial support to directly benefit Western Carolina student-athletes. The events are a great opportunity to engage in the local community and rally alumni and fans alike, while also getting Western Carolina coaches together to generate excitement for the upcoming year. This is another way to be involved with WCU by giving back and enjoying a great day of golf.
