SAAC Honored at Celebrating Excellence Awards

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was feted at the Celebrating Excellence Awards on Monday, recognizing excellence by organizations and members on the Western Carolina University campus.

These Western Carolina student-athletes and SAAC were awarded the following:

1. Emerging Female Leader (Awarded to one rising sophomore or junior female who shows great promise in areas of academics and leadership in and out of the classroom) - Melanie Stewart(Women's Basketball)

2. Spirit Award (Awarded to an individual who best exemplifies what it means to be a Catamount and shows Catamount spirit every day. This individual excels both in and out of the classroom while bleeding purple and gold.) - Lauren Crawford(Cheerleading)

3. Un-Sung Hero (Awarded to a member of an organization whose individual contributions behind the scenes in their organization has advanced the mission of their organization.) - Samantha Hodge (Soccer)

4. Female Outstanding Student Leader (Awarded to one female of junior or senior status who excelled in areas of academia and student involvement, has the ability to motivate and encourage others, and has made a significant impact on the WCU community.) - Katie King (Softball)

5. Male Outstanding Student Leader (Awarded to one male of junior or senior status who excelled in areas of academia and student involvement, has the ability to motivate and encourage others, and has made a significant impact on the WCU community) - Chris Everett, Jr. (Football)

6. Advocacy Award (Awarded to recognize and acknowledge the special efforts of a particular organization in raising awareness for a cause or a particular charity, based off of the following criteria: general contribution to the WCU community, creativity, event planning, organization and implementation, promotion, collaboration, and the appeal to the student body.) - SAAC "Whee Think Pink"

7. Most Innovative Program (Awarded to the student organization that best understands the current needs of the WCU student body and positively advances the WCU community through sponsoring the most creative and groundbreaking project or a program) - SAAC "Whee Think Pink"
