Western Carolina Places League-Leading 22 on Winter Academic All-Conference

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina led all conference members with 22 student-athletes selected to the Southern Conference 2007-08 Winter Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the conference office Wednesday.

Women's Indoor track led the Catamounts with nine members on the academic all-conference team followed by men's indoor track (7), women's basketball (4) and men's basketball (2). Women's basketball players Heather Swayne and Kristen Feemster led the Catamounts with the highest GPA. Feemster is carrying a 3.98 GPA while Swayne has a 3.95.

A total of 137 student-athletes in five sports, representing all 11 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. The 137 student-athletes averaged a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded campaign.

This is the sixth year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season.
