Western Carolina University and The Catamount Club hosted the Second Annual Student-Athlete Scholarship Banquet on April 9th. The event was held at the Lion Crest Inn located on the property of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. This was an invitation-only event for Catamount Club donors at the Varsity Club Level and above. It served as an opportunity for donors to meet and connect with select student-athletes of Western Carolina University.
The Scholarship Banquet featured WCU Student-Athletes from all 16 Division I Programs, head coaches, university administration and special guests. Among the special guests for the evening was the President of the University of North Carolina, Tom Ross. President Ross has made multiple visits to Western Carolina University since taking over his position in January. During his brief remarks at the banquet, he expressed his passion for the well being of our student-athletes and the importance of intercollegiate athletics to a university community.
The featured speaker, Lynn McCann of Ocala, FL, was a former NFL player for the Minnesota Vikings, who has gone on to run several successful businesses in printing and cattle breeding. McCann delivered a powerful message centered on the roles that each person plays, especially coaches, in the leadership development of our student-athletes at WCU.
On behalf of WCU Athletics and the Catamount Club, we would like extend a special thank you to all who were able to attend this wonderful evening as we celebrated the impact that members of the Catamount Club are making in the lives of our student athletes.
