Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University's Student-Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) organized a talent show at the Mountain Trace Nursing Center recently.

Various student-athletes from the volleyball, women's basketball, men's and women's track and field and women's soccer team displayed their many talents to a group of residents at the nursing center. Some of the talents included singing, playing the guitar, playing the piano and a karate demonstration.

The student-athletes passed out roses, while three volleyball players sang "The Rose." The finale was the entire group singing "Lean On Me." The student-athletes then escorted the residents of the nursing home to their rooms.

"I believe that the experience was very rewarding to the student-athletes that participated." said Senior Woman Administrator and CHAMPS/Life Skills coordinator Maria Ochoa. "These are the kind of `life skills' that we are trying to get our student-athletes involved in."

"The show was different from what they usually see and the residents thoroughly enjoyed it," stated Delores Jones of the Mountain Trace Nursing Center.
