CULLOWHEE, N.C. -
The Southern Conference announced today its Academic All-Conference team for the 2010-11 winter season. A total of 191 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. Western Carolina had 23 student-athletes who were honored on the team, the second most of any SoCon institution.
Sophomore Morgan Turner of the women's track and field team was one of seven student-athletes in the SoCon who has maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded winter campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
The women's indoor track and field programs supplied the greatest number of honorees with 12, followed by men's indoor track and field with seven and women's basketball with four.
