WCU Dance Team to Hold Purple Team Tryouts, Aug. 25-26
Western Carolina and the WCU Dance Team are adding a second squad to the line up for the 2006-07 athletic seasons. In addition to the Gold Squad, the Purple Squad will hit campus this fall and there are still vacancies. Crum and the squad will be looking to fill those vacancies as soon as students arrive back to campus in the fall with open tryouts set for Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26.
The Purple Squad will work in conjunction with the Gold Squad during Catamount football season, performing on the sidelines during all home contests at Whitmire this fall. The Purple Squad will also perform during home Lady Catamount women's basketball games in Ramsey.
The WCU Dance Team was founded in 1995 by Mrs. Donna Bucker. The team has helped provide school spirit and entertainment at Catamount sporting events, as well as at the annual Southern Conference basketball tournaments. It has also provided many students, who have a dance background, with an opportunity to continue to grow as dancers and performers.
The schedule for the open tryouts for the WCU Purple Squad will be Friday, August 25, 2006 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Saturday, August 26, 2006 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The location for open tryouts has yet to be determined.
Those interested in participating in the Purple Squad tryouts will need to be able to perform a toe touch, double turns on both sides, high kicks on both sides, leaps both sides, switch leaps both sides, center leaps both sides and front leaps both sides. The tryout will also included a sideline routine and 4-8 counts of a hip hop and a technical routine that will be taught for auditions on Friday night.
