The Lady Catamount basketball team departed Cullowhee, USA by bus at approximately 11:45 am on Friday morning.
Destination: Knoxville, Tenn., and the first round of the school's first-ever NCAA women's basketball tournament.
After the two-hour jaunt through the mountains of Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, the Lady Cats arrived in Knoxville and the campus of the University of Tennessee. Driving past the 100,000-plus seats of Neyland Stadium and the enormity of Thompson-Boling Arena, Western practiced for a couple hours at the former home of Vol basketball, the Stokley Athletic Center.
After practice, it was a 20-minute drive along the Alcoa Highway to the NCAA's host hotel for the Lady Cats -- the Hilton Airport. The team spent a few hours resting and relaxing before loading up for dinner at Calhoun's on the River in Knoxville.
So far, the team is in good spirits, singing most of the way back to the hotel. Must also add that the Lady Catamounts have had a great tour guide here in Knoxville -- but I suppose having a three-time National Champion from UT as your leader really helps.
Be sure to check back on Saturday evening for more pictures from the Lady Catamounts' trip to Knoxville and the NCAA Tournament. On the agenda tomorrow are trips to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, the pre-tournament news conference, and an open practice at Thompson-Boling.
