Catamount Fan Plans for Southern Conference Semifinal Sunday

Asheville, N.C. - Catamount fans are beckoned to converge on Asheville for Semifinal Sunday of the 2014 Southern Conference Men's & Women's Basketball Championships. "Whee" need your support to "Paint the town Purple" as both Catamount hoops squads face the Davidson Wildcats in two separate sessions at the downtown U.S. Cellular Center.

Winners of back-to-back games to open tournament play, the seventh-seeded Catamount women face No. 3 Davidson in game two of the day's first session at approximately 2:30 pm, while the men face the top-seeded Wildcats at 6:00 pm.

Festivities get underway at around Noon on Sunday with a special pregame social at the 2014 Catamount Central presented by Champion Credit Union, at Scully's Bar & Grille (13 Walnut Street, All Catamount fans are invited to gather prior to invading the U.S. Cellular Center for the women's game at 2:30 pm.

Afterwards, the party switches back to Catamount Central at Scully's for a special pregame pep rally with the WCU Cheerleaders, WCU Dance Team, and the Cat House Band at 5:00 pm. Then, at 6:00 pm, the fifth-seeded Catamounts face No. 1 Davidson with tip-off at 6:00 pm.

All Catamount fans are encouraged to wear purple as we "Paint Asheville Purple."

WCU's men advanced with dramatic, come-from-behind, 66-64, win over No. 4 Elon on Saturday while the women upset No. 2 seed Furman, 75-70, at the Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville.

On the women's side, Davidson took both meetings with the Catamounts, upending WCU by four, 69-65, on Education Day in Cullowhee on Jan. 27 before winning 83-73 at Belk Arena on Feb. 22. Despite the 10-point margin in the second meeting, WCU led in the second half of a game which saw 10 ties and seven lead changes.

WCU's men only met Davidson once during the regular season, an 82-77 home loss to the Wildcats in Cullowhee back on Jan. 23. Davidson shot 72 percent from the floor in the first half to build a double-digit lead. The Catamounts pulled to within two twice inside the final five minutes, but were unable to pull even or ahead.
