Cullowhee, N.C. - Nearly 50 individuals braved the blast of wintry weather on Tuesday to attend the first of a series of Western Carolina Head Coaches' Luncheons in the first floor Hospitality Room of the Ramsey Center.
Men's basketball head coach Larry Hunter, women's head coach Kellie Harper and WCU sophomore Lauren Powell each took turns speaking to the audience. Among their respective messages was a common thread of thanking those in attendance, thanking Western North Carolina for its support of Catamount basketball and a request to continue that support and to pack the Ramsey Center for the remaining home dates. Hunter also took the opportunity to break down several plays from Western's road win at Chattanooga on Monday night to those in attendance.
The trio also field questions from the audience ranging from recruiting techniques to weekly practice routines to how they felt the Southern Conference was shaking down this season.
Western will host weekly coaches luncheons every Tuesday through February 20. The buffet-style lunch will begin at 11:45 am each and last until approximately 1:00 pm. There is an open invitation to everyone in the surrounding communities, but an RSVP is requested by the Friday prior to the next event to allow proper preparations to be made. The cost of the luncheon is just $5.00 per person.
