CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Thirty Western Carolina student-athletes earned spots on the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the 2012 fall semester, the league office announced Friday.

To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the fall season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

Western Carolina football's Conner Orr and cross country's Michelle Provost both maintained perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point averages.

The 302 student-athletes on the team surpassed last year's fall total by one. Among the 302 student-athletes were at least 14 representatives from each of the 12 SoCon institutions, participating in men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.

The league's 12 women's soccer programs provided the most academic all-conference members with 79, followed by football with 58 and women's cross country with 51.

Among member institutions, Wofford led all schools with 37 members on the academic all-conference team. Appalachian State was second with 33, edging Elon, which had 32.
