Oh how I've missed road trips. This past weekend we made an eight hour trip to Athens, Ohio to take on Ohio University, Oregon, and Kentucky.

We started our journey with loading our bus with bags, pillows, blankets, movies, and LOTS of food. The most important thing is trying to figure out how you are going to situate yourself on the bus. There is definitely a strategy to becoming comfortable. You can lay your head towards the window, lay your head towards the aisle, or my personal favorite, laying completely on the floor. One question remains, what if someone has to go to the bathroom?

Well then it's a whole other process to dodge and weave between the multiple bodies on the floor or across the aisle. Just be prepared to possibly be hit or stepped on! And let's not forget the beautiful faces everyone makes when they are sleeping (be prepared for future nap snapshots). We safely made it to Ohio and checked in to our hotel. We rested up for the night and got ready for the upcoming games of the weekend.

We came in with an open mind and our goal was to just have fun. It was a learning experience and we made the best of it. Even though we came out with a losing record for the tournament, everyone was pleased with our performance. We were excited for the next time we could play.

That next time would be against UNC Asheville, and that was intense. We started out strong with winning the first two games, but then ended up losing the next three games. It was definitely heartbreaking being so close to winning, but just like any other loss we have to learn from it. We worked hard in practice and the focus was on our mental toughness. Your mental game is just as important as your physical one.

When we leave for NC State this weekend, we have to keep in mind that communication and your mentality is key. Also, always remember "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose". Focus to finish. GO CATS!

The first in a series of blogs by sophomore OH Jordan Timmermann. In her first season in the Purple and Gold, the Florissant, Mo., native made the 2012 SoCon All-Freshman Team as she finished second on the team in digs with 355 for the year. She was a two-time SoCon Freshman of the Week (Sept. 19, Oct. 17) while also picking up seven double-doubles for the season, including four in a row from Nov. 14-Nov. 30. Check the blog section of the bottom of CatamountSports.com and the Volleyball page for more blog entries from Timmermann.

Summer is almost over which can only mean one thing...volleyball preseason! Say hello to sore bodies and aching muscles. Everyone is back and ready to hit the gym for practice and conditioning. While our muscles are screaming at us, it will be all worth it in the end because hard work pays off!

It is great to be back in the `Whee with everyone on the team because we are truly everyone's best friends and family. Even the freshmen are fitting in perfectly to our craziness. Week one of preseason is already done and over with and man was it busy. We managed to fit in two-a-days, lifting, conditioning, and even a rafting trip!

Our team bonding rafting trip will be something we will remember for a long time. Just think of 14 screaming girls in rafts, in 55 degree water, while it was pouring down rain. Yeah couldn't get any worse....oh wait I forgot the lightning and thunder. I just remember thinking to myself (as I was shivering the ENTIRE time) what did I get myself into? We didn't have the ideal conditions for a good rafting trip, but we made it our own and definitely made memories that will stay with us forever.

I know we are all looking forward to this upcoming season because we are closer than ever and have the focus to achieve our goals. I like to use a quote from one of my favorite TV shows, "Friday Night Lights," that I think fits perfectly for the team: "Clear eyes, Full hearts, Can't lose."

"Clear eyes, Full hearts, Can't lose."

If we stay together as a team and put our heart and soul into every moment, we can't lose. I'll keep everyone updated on what is going on with the volleyball team because I'm sure we will have some crazy stories to be told. GO CATS!
