SigmonBlog.jpgHey Catamount fans,

It's been a while since my last post so let me get you all updated about what's been going on with Catamount softball.

Just last weekend we took the series from Georgia Southern, last year's conference champions. Also, our pitcher Jordan Garrett is inching closer and closer to the single season record for most strikeouts in a season, she has 202, and only nine to go to go over the record of 210.

It was truly a special weekend because we also got to celebrate our seniors and all that they have contributed to this program in their time as Catamounts.

My first season here at Western Carolina has absolutely flown by. I feel like I was just moving into my dorm a few months ago, and I cannot believe we already celebrated senior day. It's crazy to think that I will be there in three short years, and it makes me cherish the time that I still have here doing what I love.

I think I can speak for the whole team when I say that the seniors will truly be missed next year. We couldn't ask for better leaders, teammates, and friends.

Coming in as a freshman, I definitely heard some horror stories from some of my softball friends about how they have had some terrible seniors on their teams, and I never once had to deal with anything like that. They made my freshman year less stressful because I knew i could go to them if I needed help with anything; they have all been so supportive to me.

They are also all extremely talented players, and I have learned so much from just being able to watch them this whole year. I know they are all going to be successful in whatever they decide to do after college, and I wish them nothing but the best. I feel extremely blessed to have been able to play with each and every one of these girls, and I love them all so much! Once a Catamount, ALWAYS a Catamount!

But the season is not quite over yet!

We play our final series this weekend at College of Charleston. They are currently ranked second in conference, so they are not going to be an easy team to beat. But we have been working extremely hard the last couple of weeks to finish this season strong and we intend to.

We would like to get a few wins this weekend because we have our conference tournament coming up in two weeks. This year it is in Greensboro, N.C. and we will have our first game Wednesday, May 8th.

On our team, we call the tournament our "third season" and we are hoping to bring a Socon championship back home to Cullowhee! We had our last home games on Wednesday, but our season isn't over. If any of you can make it to Greensboro we would love the support.

Until next time...GO CATS!

Thanks and God Bless,
