Hilton Head Island, S.C. – Western Carolina junior Brianna Plummer held serve over Tuesday's final round at the 2019 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship, holding her ground in the individual standings to finish a team-best 31st overall at the conference champion-crowning event that concluded at the par-72, 5,980-yard Moss Creek Golf Club.

In a three-way tie for 30th after two rounds, Plummer posted a final round score of 83 for a three-round score of 244 as the Catamounts came home eighth in the final standings. Sophomore Harper Gilreath carded the lowest final round score for the Catamounts, finishing off her tournament with an 81 on Tuesday for a three-day total of 258 in 42nd overall.

Plummer – one of three Catamounts to return to the conference tournament from a year ago – dropped 23 strokes from her sophomore year score while also climbing nine spots from the 2018 edition of the event. On Tuesday, the Shelby, N.C., native carded six of her 10 pars on the back nine, playing the first nine at 5-over before shooting 6-over on the front nine.

Sophomore Hazel Martin, who was forced to withdraw from last year's championship due to injury after the opening round, finished tied for 37th with a three-day total of 255, matched by senior teammate Shannon Heerey. The Meath, Ireland, native advanced three positions on Tuesday with her best round of the tournament at 84. Martin, a product of Brisbane, Australia, carded a team-best six birdies while also pacing the field in par-3 scoring at 4-under par (2.67) at the 54-hole event.

Rounding out WCU's scoring five was sophomore Maya White who slid seven spots in the final standings into a two-way tie for 40th overall at 257, just ahead of Gilreath in 42nd. White, from nearby Fletcher, N.C., matched Plummer with a WCU-best 25 pars over the past three days. White did improve by 12 strokes from her freshman season at the SoCon Championship.

Furman claimed its fifth-straight SoCon Women's Golf Championship, wrapping up a 27-over par team score of 891 to cruise to the 14-stroke victory over the second-place tie between ETSU and Chattanooga at 905. The Paladins have claimed 18 of the 26 all-time SoCon championships, earning the league's automatic bid to an NCAA regional which will be held May 6-8. Due to a tie-breaker, ETSU was declared the tournament runner-up with Chattanooga third. Mercer (911) finished fourth with UNCG placing fifth with a three-day score of 927.

Samford (929) finished sixth with Wofford (947), WCU (997) and The Citadel (1,013) rounding out the nine-team tournament field.

Chattanooga's Monica San Juan claimed individual medalist honors by four strokes over a two-way tie between Hee Ying Loy of ETSU and Furman's Haylee Harford. San Juan carded a 1-under par 215 over the three-day tournament with Loy and Harford shooting matching 3-over par scores of 219.

The tournament concludes the 2018-19 season for Western Carolina with one senior – Shannon Heerey – playing in her final event for the Catamounts.
